About Us

We have a goal of bringing back simple living. The world you remember as a child, when problems were non existent and life was bliss. We want to take you on a journey…

Memories

It’s a beautiful day outside and you’re running at top speed, heading home. Upon arrival, you burst inside, the screen door bangs shut behind you. There’s a smell of baked goods in the air, a fresh can of biscuits or maybe cinnamon rolls in the oven, waiting to be devoured. On top of that, you just saw an impressively sized bug while dominating in a game of freeze tag. You ask your parents for a jar to go capture the beautiful monstrosity for examination over the next few days. You are given a good sized old pickle jar and run out without a care in the world.

You being the fearless tactician you are, catch the bug with ease and show it to everyone you played tag with. They are in awe of you fortune and prowess. After a few more rounds of tag the sky shows signs of dimming as the sun begins to fade. The street lights began to flicker as you say goodbye to your friends grabbing the bug in a jar and taking off towards home. You arrive right before the lights come on, perfect timing as always. You step inside, covered in sweat and filth. Upon seeing your parents you are told to wash up for dinner. You hit a quick rinse and come down with the bug in a jar in tow. You show everyone and they are impressed, reminding you to pop holes in the lid so it doesn’t suffocate. You set your prize down and eat dinner, finishing quick so you can examine the bug at your leisure later.

You have your parent pop holes in the lid. They grab a black handled steak knife, turning it slightly with each poke to allow room for more oxygen but still prevent the bug from escaping. You grab a cinnamon roll and head to your room. You name your new friend and examine it for hours, taking it out to let it roam around it’s new home. You hear time for bed in the distance and wish your family as well as your new friend a good night falling into a deep slumber. A phenomenal day.

Our Mission

This is the feeling we want to evoke. We want to provide you with a fun pet, a conversation piece, a slice of nature, a first pet for a child, a classroom pet, an office oddity etc. The key is the nostalgia it will bring to you and those around you.

Bug in a jar is the simplest pet in the world. You can merely just give them food and water and watch them grow or take them out, bring them places with you, decorate their house, and feel how you did when you were a kid.

The Goal

We take the guesswork out of the equation. The bugs are all bred and raised here. No worries of harmful pathogens or bug bites etc. Just quality, safety and longevity.

The feeling of nostalgia is the closest thing we have to time travel. Give your kids fond new memories, reawaken your own, bring a bit of nature indoors and Get a Bug in a Jar.
